Inlays/Onlays

Inlays and onlays are used to provide extensive coverage for a tooth that has little enamel structure left. An inlay fits within the contours of a tooth, much like a puzzle piece. It is cast in one piece, usually of ceramic or metal. An onlay covers the entire chewing surface and one or more cusps, providing protection against fractures. It is also made of either metal or ceramic. We may suggest inlays or onlays as a restoration if we feel your tooth is vulnerable to breakage. Onlays are often used when the amount of lost tooth structure is more than a regular filling can replace. Both ceramic inlays and onlays can provide aesthetic appeal, looking exactly like a natural tooth.
